Job Description
Position Purpose
To take overall responsibility for butt roll cutting within manufacturing, ensuring that converting rejects are processed within the required timeframe. The role includes training as a TM1 & TM2 pulper operator, Slush pulper operator, and relieving bale press operators when necessary. The incumbent will also operate the shrink-wrapping machine as required, while maintaining safety, quality, and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
Administrative & Operational
• Ensure adherence to safety, quality, environment, housekeeping, and GMP standards.
• Follow control systems and procedures, including Work Instructions (WI) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
• Adhere to the daily production plan and schedule.
• Record all cut rolls accurately and maintain proper documentation.
Equipment & Process Management
• Conduct 3-hourly checks of converting rejects and liaise with the Shift Manager for cutting schedules.
• Operate butt cutting equipment safely and efficiently.
• Assist with felt and wire changes when required.
• Operate forklift and clamp truck to move rolls safely.
• Run the shrink-wrapping machine when required.
• Ensure cutting tools are maintained in proper condition.
• Transport cores to core stores.
• Report equipment defects or incidents promptly.
Compliance & Safety
• Ensure contractors and team members comply with company and regulatory safety standards.
• Maintain 5S standards in the work area.
• Keep TM2 ramp clean and cleared at all times.
Performance Measurements
• Adherence to company and regulatory safety standards.
• Defect-free broke processed in pulpers.
• Shrink wrapper maintained in good working condition.
• Proper execution of 5S housekeeping standards.
• Timely and accurate cutting of rolls as per daily plan.
Qualifications & Experience
Education:
• Matric (Grade 12) required;
• technical or manufacturing qualification advantageous.
• Certification: Forklift and clamp truck license preferred. Computer literacy advantageous.
Experience:
o Prior experience in manufacturing or machine operation preferred.
o Exposure to pulp and paper operations advantageous.
Skills & Competencies

• Clear communication and teamwork abilities.
• Flexibility to provide shift cover and relieve operators when required.
